14th November 2025

Remembrance Day at Four Oaks

On Tuesday, we remembered all the soldiers who have fought in wars to help keep us safe. Every class completed a work and contributed to our wonderful display. We took part in our Remembrance assembly. Year 4 children reminded us that Remembrance Day is on 11th November each year and that Poppies are flowers that help people remember the soldiers injured or killed in many different wars. They reminded us that people wear paper poppies to show they are thinking about the soldiers. In addition, the Year 6 children read a beautiful war poem to all of us at the end of our assembly. Buying a poppy helps to raise money to take care of soldiers and their families. We would like to thank all the children and families who kindly donated their money to the Royal British Legion by buying poppies.

"I enjoyed learning more about Remembrance Day and during the one-minute silence I thought about the soldiers who died for our country!’" Poppy, Year 4.

"I thought about all the people who sacrificed their lives at wars and also about their families. I think that Remembrance Day is a very important day of the year.’" Oscar, Year 4.

Year 6 - Into University

This week, Year 6JG have been at Into University. They have been looking at the university course ‘’War Studies’’. The children have been able to hear from a university student about what their course is like and what it entails. On Wednesday, we went on a wonderful trip to the Museum of Liverpool where the children completed a scavenger hunt around the City Soldiers exhibition to learn more about the topic but also to crack the code to our clues! We then went to Western Approaches and were immersed into what life was like during WW2 in Liverpool. We learnt about Morse Code and how it was used during WW2. We even got to go into the room where the workers plotted where the U-Boats were during the Battle of the Atlantic. We had a brilliant time and enjoyed seeing what life would have been like for the people working in the bunker during WW2.

A note from the Headteacher, Mrs Robinson

Our Curriculum.

This newsletter has shone a light on some of our History curriculum and particularly WW2 in Year 6 which is positive to see. The planned coverage for all subjects in all year groups can be seen on our website under 'curriculum', followed by choosing individual subjects. Our curriculum is carefully designed to be progressive and build on knowledge and skills learned in previous terms or years. We teach the children to differentiate between facts and opinions in their studies, including RE, and teachers never promote their personal beliefs. Pupil Voice shows us that the children are becoming increasingly expert in applying their knowledge across subjects and drawing their own conclusions - well done children! Reading both fiction and non-fiction is a wonderful way of learning about a range of topics, eras and characters. We hope you enjoy the children's book recommendations below.

Book Recommendations

  1. Alex Rider Point Blanc Graphic Novel by Anthony Horowitz recommended by Muhialdin, Year 6.
  2. The Diary of Dennis the Menace Roller Coaster Riot By Steven Butler. Recommended by Noah, Year 4.
