7th November

Welcome back to our new half-term. We hope you enjoyed the two-week holiday and it has helped the children feel refreshed and raring to go again!

Year 3 Music

This half-term, we are learning how to sing and perform the song ‘Let Your Spirit Fly’ by Joanna Mangona. The children have been listening to and appraising the music, enjoying exploring the melody, rhythm, and lyrics, while developing their confidence as singers and musicians.

They identified different musical instruments being played and how the music makes them feel. As part of their music lessons, they have also been learning to accompany the song on the glockenspiels, practising keeping in time and playing simple notes to support the tune. We are excellent musicians!

Nursery Fingers

This week in Nursery, we have shown 1, 2 or 3 fingers in different contexts. It can be tricky to isolate our fingers, so we have taken part in many funky finger activities to strengthen our fingers. Some of these activities include cutting, threading and using play-doh.

We have used many rhymes and stories to practice these skills in a fun and meaningful way. We shared a great story called ‘Fox’s Socks’ by Julia Donaldson. Whenever we could hear a number, we had to show this number on our fingers. As the week went on, the children grew in confidence and become quite fast at demonstrating their understanding.

Latest News

We are very proud of the effort that our children put into their work and the progress they make. On Tuesday, we had a Northern School Trust Review Day, where senior NST staff visited us to identify strong practice to share with our partner schools. All members of the Trust Review team have a teaching background and are very experienced and highly skilled educational professionals. Also, on Wednesday, Mrs Ryan-Palmer, a member of the Trust Board, who is an experienced teacher, visited the school.

All colleagues from the Trust reported that they were impressed with the quality of education on offer and with the children’s impeccable manners and attitudes towards learning. Mrs Ryan-Palmer was particularly impressed that children have access to high-quality ambitious texts such as ‘War of the Worlds’ by HG Wells in Year 5. We believe that nurturing a love of reading opens up new worlds for all our children. In addition to praise and rewards in class for reading, this year we have doubled the number of children who receive Reading Awards. Children are chosen entirely on their individual merits, such as demonstrating a determination to improve their reading skills regardless of their starting point. Well done to all the children for your excellent contribution to reading lessons.

We would like to invite you to see your child’s work and to meet their teachers on Wednesday 3rd December between 3.20pm and 4.30pm. There is no need to make an appointment and your children can come with you. If you would like a private appointment, please speak to your class teacher. Please see the separate letter for more details.

Have a lovely weekend, and please stay safe if you are enjoying fireworks this weekend. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Mrs Robinson, Headteacher.
