Reception Autumn

The children noticed the leaves changing colour and falling to the ground in our outdoor area. As a result of this, this week we have explored the season ‘Autumn’ through nonfiction book and songs. The children have particularly enjoyed looking closely at autumn objects such as pumpkin and leaves.

We have continued to explore our mathematical focus of pattern and size by identifying different pattern and exploring different sizes and weight.

“The leaves change to brown, red and orange.” Noah

“The big pumpkin is heavy.” Grace

“This leaf has a stripey pattern.” Alice

“The small pumpkin is orange and white stripes.” Isabelle

Year 6 Science

Our science topic is ‘Classification’. Classification is putting living things into groups based on specific things they have in common, including the way they look and what they do. This week, we researched the four main plant groups: Conifers, Flowering Plants, Ferns and Mosses. We found out the characteristics of each group and were able to draw similarities and differences between each group.

We discovered how plants that make seeds are either flowering plants or conifer trees and plants that don’t make seeds are either ferns or mosses. After researching, we recorded our ideas onto a poster and each science group presented their poster to the rest of the class. We are looking forward to classifying animals using classification keys!
