School Highlights

Year 5 Science

This week in Science, Year 5 became investigators as we explored friction, the force that slows things down when surfaces rub together. We tested how much friction was created between a shoe and a wooden block on a ramp. By carefully observing and recording our results, we discovered how different surfaces can affect movement. The children worked brilliantly as scientists, making predictions, carrying out fair tests, and analysing their findings before drawing conclusions from the evidence they collected. What a fantastic lesson in scientific enquiry!

Year 1 Phonics

Our children have been working hard to develop their reading skills this term. They have been enjoying practising partner reading, taking turns to read aloud, listen carefully to one another, and support their partners when needed. They have also been strengthening their phonics skills, practising sounds and applying their knowledge to help them read unfamiliar words. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they become more fluent and enthusiastic readers.

Reading at home regularly is a wonderful way to support your child’s development, helping to build their fluency and confidence, vocabulary, comprehension and love of reading.

“I love learning Phonics.” Sofia

“I love to read.” Derya

“I have been reading my book at home.” Kester

Little Acorns - Exploring together

In Little Acorns, we have been busy exploring, playing and learning together! We have been developing our personal, social and emotional skills as we learn how to play alongside our friends, share resources and take turns. During our sensory water play, we explored the mathematical concepts of “full” and “empty” through scooping, pouring and filling containers. We have also enjoyed listening to familiar stories, including ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’, encouraging the children to join in with repeated phrases and talk about the characters and events. A tiger even joined us for our snack! Each week we choose a Rhyme of the Week such as ‘Tommy Thumb’, which the children have enjoyed joining in with using actions, helping to develop their communication, language and physical skills. It has been lovely to see the children becoming increasingly confident and engaged in their learning through play!
