School Highlights

Reception - Superheroes

Reception had a very special visit from some real-life superheroes! Our Police Community Support Officers came into school as part of our Magic Story Box. They told us about their important jobs and how they help and support people in the community. They even helped us with part of our investigation into the Evil Pea. Reception enjoyed their visit and loved asking questions, sharing ideas and learning how our community superheroes help to keep us safe. What an exciting and memorable afternoon.

Year 6 - Art

This week in Art, Year 6 have been applying their sketching and shading skills to begin their final piece inspired by the work of Mark Powell and Ed Fairburn. The children began their self portraits on a map of our school and tried to incorporate the features of the map into their portraits. We used hatching, cross hatching and stippling to create some shade and depth on our portraits. Next week, we will use fine liners and biros to add more definition.

A message from the Headteacher

Dear families and children,

I am sure that you were aware that this week we were visited by Ofsted. Inspections are unannounced and the process started on Monday morning with the Lead Inspector telephoning the Headteacher for a detailed interview. Tuesday and Wednesday saw three Inspectors in the school. They carried out multiple learning walks around every class watching the teaching and monitoring the quality of learning displays and all work in the children’s books. They talked to groups of children without staff present, and they interviewed staff, governors and trustees. We were delighted that they spoke to so many parents as well – thank you for giving your time to share your views and experiences.

The Inspection team are highly skilled in considering all the evidence and carry out a very rigorous test of all that we do, which included looking at data over previous years. Their final report must be quality assured by Ofsted before being released to you and the wider public. As soon as it is released, we will share it with you.

In the meantime, we can say how proud we were of everyone that was a part of the inspection and especially the children. Responses from the children to the Inspectors about what they thought the best thing was about school included, “English and Maths lessons.” and another child said, “The learning because I can go home and tell my mum about it.”

Throughout the inspection, Inspectors noted the children’s superb behaviour, attitude and enthusiasm for learning and also the high-quality opportunities that are provided every day. All the children and staff deserve praise for all that they do every day as part of our Four Oaks family. My grateful thanks extend to you, the families, who do so much to encourage and work alongside us.

With very kind regards,

Mrs Robinson, Headteacher.
