School Highlights

Year 3 - Science

This week in science, year 3 have been learning about the functions of our muscles and bones as part of our topic ‘Animals Including Humans.’ We became osteologists- scientists who study the structure and function of bones. We investigated how our skeleton and muscles work together to help us move and protect our bodies and in groups we carried out an exciting investigation to find out the answer to the question “Do taller children jump further?” The children measured, observed and compared results and developed their scientific skills while learning more about how our amazing bodies work. Following our investigation and our findings we concluded that our height does not determine how far we can jump, as some smaller children were able to jump further than those who were taller!

Ahana- “I didn’t know that our bones and muscles work together.”

Jeremiah- “My favourite part was seeing how far I could jump!”

Riley- “I predicted taller children would jump further because they have longer legs.”

Year 1 Maths

This week in Maths, the Year 1 children have been learning about one more and one less. They have been using practical resources such as ten frames, double sided counters and takeaway mats to help them represent and understand the numbers. The children have enjoyed exploring how numbers change when we add one more or take one away.

“One more than 2 is 3.” Grace

“One more than 4 is 5.” Kody

“One less than 9 is 8.” Callum

“One less than 10 is 9.” Lidya
