School Highlights

Year 5 – English

In English we built rafts using different types of sticks and string. We worked in groups to lay out, tie and construct the raft. We did this to help us recognise different imperative verbs such as cut, tie and lay. This lesson will help us in our piece of writing where we are going to write a set of instructions for a survival guide on how to build a raft.

Little Acorns – Superheroes

This half term, Little Acorns have been learning about real-life superheroes and the important roles they play in helping our community. This week, we focused on bin men and women and explored how they help to keep our environment clean and tidy. Little Acorns have helped keep our school environment tidy this week by picking up litter whilst discussing the importance of putting our rubbish in the bin.

We have also been celebrating World Turtle Day and learning the importance of protecting our oceans and recycling. The children particularly enjoyed fishing plastic objects out of the water tray and counting them into a recycling bucket. Little Acorns will be making an exciting sculpture with our recycled items!

A message from the Headteacher

Dear all,

Thank you to Little Acorns and Year 5, who have taken responsibility for this week’s newsletter. I am looking forward to seeing the finished rafts, Y5! Also, it is encouraging to see how children from such a young age are interested in protecting the environment both locally and worldwide. The children are always keen to promote our clean and tidy school and often talk about how we can all make a difference in the local neighbourhood including not dropping litter and picking up dog dirt, especially in the streets around school.

Children have also been interested to hear about our ongoing work in school to help the environment. In addition to the solar panels that we had fitted recently, this week and next we are having special water heaters fitted which will use renewable energy to heat the water we use to wash our hands. We will be updating all the children after the half term break.

We are delighted that the sun has decided to shine in time for a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and half term holiday for you all. We hope you have a wonderful break and that the children come back refreshed on Monday 1st June.

Kind regards,

Mrs Robinson and the Four Oaks team
