Year 4 – Liverpool Philharmonic

On Tuesday morning, Year 4 children went to see the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s ‘Citizens of Earth: Music for what Matters’ concert. These concerts have been running for over 80 years and are attended by 18 000 children every year!

The fun-filled concerts explored the themes of conservation, the environment and the rights of the child. On the day, we also explored how composers have used their music to share important information and learnt all about the challenges facing the planet we call home. We also sang a specially commissioned song, ‘The People of the Future’, accompanied by the orchestra! What a great opportunity to enrich our curriculum! Children loved the experience. They were very enthusiastic and enjoyed learning something new.

“It was amazing! I loved watching and listening to the orchestra!” (Oscar)

“My favourite part was about Antarctica. There was a penguin dancing on the stage. It made me feel happy!” (Aria)

“We enjoyed the concert! Our favourite instruments were percussion and cellos!” (Misha and Ellis)

Spring in Nursery

This week in Nursery we have been learning about Spring and using new vocabulary such as blossom, buds and daffodil. We have noticed signs of Spring on our playground such as bright daffodils beginning to bloom. We have created colourful artwork inspired by the flowers we see around us. We have discussed the weather changing and what this mean for this new season. The children have also share excitement about upcoming celebrations such as Easter.

Science Week

We have had a busy week in school for Science Week. Classes from different year groups have been taking part in science workshops, watching live lessons and have had an exciting visit from some creepy crawlies!

The Year 1 children enjoyed watching the NFU live lesson, The BIG FARMING QUESTION. They learned lots of information about the animals on the farm, how each animal/insect has a job, and how the farmers care for the wildlife on the farm.

“When the cows poo, the Dung Beetle comes along and eats the poo.” – Isabelle

“The farmers cut all the old weeds down and then put the seeds in the soil, then they can start fresh in the new seasons.” – Nell
