Year 6 – Heart Dissection

Year 6 carried out a hands‑on heart dissection this week, using scalpels to carefully open a lamb’s heart and explore its internal structure. The children were able to identify the four chambers, examine the valves that control blood flow, and trace the major arteries leading in and out of the heart. It was a memorable opportunity to see their science learning come to life and to deepen their understanding of how this vital organ works.

Lillia – ‘ It was really interesting because we got to see how the valves work!’

Pheobe – ‘ It was really fun and I enjoyed using the specialist equipment’

Nahier – ‘ I liked it, but I don’t really like blood!’

Little Acorns

This week the children have been learning about flowers and how they grow. We explored different seeds and flowers, discussing their colours, patterns, and size. The children enjoyed using the flowers to create their own paintings. We have also been reading the story Sam Plants a Sunflower, which inspired us to plant our own sunflower seeds. The children independently filled their pots with soil and planted the seed. Nelle said, “We need water!” We are excited to watch them grow over the coming weeks. Olivia said, “We need to wait for them to grow.”
