Year 4 – TATE Art Project

Year 4 have had an incredible artistic journey this term thanks to two inspiring visits from Tate! Working alongside a talented visiting artist, the children learned how to use recyclable materials to design and build impressive free-standing structures. Using a range of recycled items and modroc, they carefully constructed unique sculptures, developing resilience, creativity and teamwork along the way. “I learned that you can turn ordinary recycling into amazing art if you use your imagination!” “We learned about recycling in science, and now we made art out of it!” shared Billy and Ella proudly.

The following week, the creativity continued as the children explored a variety of painting techniques, brush strokes and colour mixing skills. Inspired by the work of well-known artists, they transformed their sculptures using bold abstract art techniques, experimenting with vibrant colours, dynamic shapes and striking patterns. “Mixing colours to make new shades was my favourite part because it made our sculptures look even more exciting,” said Millen. Reflecting on the experience, Wyatt said, “I didn’t know abstract art could be so expressive. We could choose our own patterns and make our sculpture completely unique.” We are incredibly proud of Year 4’s enthusiasm, imagination and the stunning creations they produced!

Year 2 – Art

Year 2 pupils have been studying the artist Claude Monet as part of their art curriculum. We have been experimenting with different painting techniques, with a particular focus on creating artwork that explores warm and cool colour palettes. We also developed our understanding of colour theory by using primary colours to mix and produce secondary colours. We then created a split picture using oil pastels to effectively contrast warm and cool tones. We love Claude Monet’s work!

Nursery – Maths

In Maths this week the children explored building with intention, carefully choosing different sized blocks for specific reasons. They learned that larger blocks create strong foundations while smaller blocks can add height and detail. Our new focus nursery rhyme of the term is Ring o’ Roses, through singing and action we are developing listening skills and rhythm. The children enjoyed working together in a circle, building confidence and cooperation.  We introduced our new story ‘Jack and the Flum Flum Tree’ and discussed the characters and setting. The children shared ideas and made simple predictions about what might happen next. We have had a busy, exciting and productive first week back in Nursery.
