Year 2 – Art

In our painting unit, Year 2 have been studying the artist Claude Monet. We have been exploring how secondary colours can be created by mixing primary colours and experimenting with warm and cool colours using a variety of mediums.

Maher – “I enjoyed mixing the paint to make cool colours like light grey.”

Riley – "I have used warm colours to make it look hot like fire."

Little Acorns

This week in Little Acorns, we have been celebrating Big Bird Watch, learning all about birds. The children have learnt that birds need food, water and shelter. The children have enjoyed making bird feeders, bird houses and nests and also watching birds outside. These activities have supported curiosity about the natural world and encouraged lots of discussions as we shared what we could see.

We have also been learning positional language, focusing on the words ‘in,’ ‘on’ and ‘under’. The children explored these concepts through completing obstacle courses, building and placing objects in different positions.

A message from the Headteacher

Dear families,

Last month in parents’ evening, you were kind enough to fill out questionnaires about your experiences at Four Oaks. We were absolutely delighted with the incredibly positive comments that you made about the school, the education your children receive and the care that staff take of all the children. There were also positive suggestions for us to consider as we move forward, which we have been following up. All the comments have been anonymised and added to the school website under ‘Views of Four Oaks’. Your suggestions and our responses are also on this page. The children have also completed resiliency ‘RISE’ questionnaires. All year group's responses were overwhelmingly positive.

All the staff in Four Oaks value the partnership that we have with you as the parents or carers. To know that you value what we do and, most importantly, that the children are happy and thriving, means an incredible amount to us all.

Examples of parents’ comments:

“My child loves all his teachers.”

“I am very happy with [my child’s] progress and all that Four Oaks can offer him going forward. Thank you.”

“Staff are lovely. They work hard.”

“My children and I feel safe and the teaching is good as are the teachers.”

“Despite joining the school recently, he seems to have settled down well and quickly with the school’s help. We also like the verbal feedback on school performance.”

“Happy in school.”

“The teacher in my child’s year has been very supportive.”

“I love that [my child] is happy to go to school, that makes me happy too because I know he’s safe.”

Visitors to Four Oaks continue to be impressed by the strong work ethic and impeccable behaviour of children in class and around school. The most recent visitor was a Compliance and Policy Officer from Liverpool City Council who visited yesterday. In her report she wrote:

Pupils are active participants in their learning, not passive listeners. Lessons are characterised by enthusiasm, curiosity, and whole class contribution.
